DEER HUNT

THE ISLAND

Since 1992, we have been intensely managing our ten thousand acres with one single goal in mind: “To Produce Trophy Whitetail Bucks".  We have created the ideal scenario that most hunting clubs covet as we are harvesting by age class rather than by the minimum number of points, spread, or score.

There are no fences on the island which allows us to offer 100% fair chase hunting. Our average trophy bucks score in the mid-140’s, with our most impressive buck scoring 248 inches. We do not charge a trophy fee.

As we continue to enhance the environment and habitat for the deer herd at Giles Island, we adhere to a set of guidelines that protect our growing bucks until they reach maturity.

REQUIREMENTS FOR HARVEST

Judged By Your Guide

  • Bucks with 8 points or less must be at least 4 years old

  • Bucks with 9 points or more must be at least 5 years old

Exceptions to the Rule

  • Bow Exception – ANY AGE deer scoring over 145”

  • Gun Exception –  ANY AGE deer scoring over 160”

Doe Harvest

Hunters will be able to harvest one doe, in addition to their trophy and management buck, until the quota set by management has been reached for the season. We do not harvest does on or around our food plots.

DEER CLASSIFICATION

  • Trophy Buck – A buck that meets the shooter requirements and scores 125 inches or greater.

  • Management Buck – A buck that meets the shooter requirements and scores less than 125 inches.

Each hunter will be paired up with an experienced hunting guide who will instruct you on which bucks are legal to shoot. Your mandatory guide will also videotape your hunts.

Any hunter who shoots a buck without the explicit permission from their guide will pay a $5,000 fine.

No Shoot List - A few young deer, under 5 years of age, that might technically meet the shooter requirements but who we believe have great genetic potential, may be deemed off limits. We do not shoot half rack bucks, bucks with broken beams, or with broken G2's or G3's.
