In order to recognize our luckiest bow hunter we offer The Giles Island Archery Award. The bow hunter with the highest Pope and Young score over 150 will receive a handcrafted bow made from bois d'arc wood harvested from the Island.
Bois d'arc is French, meaning "Wood of the Bow". This wood was highly sought after by the Native American Indians because of its strength and durability. Other names for this tree include Osage Orange or as us deer hunters call it, the "horse apple tree".
