Since 1992 Giles Island has been intensely managed with one major goal in mind. To produce trophy whitetail bucks. We have succeeded. The journey has not been easy nor are we satisfied. We will continue to do more to enhance the potential of the herd. Over the years we have put in a lot of hard work and restraint to accomplish two goals. We have derived a buck to doe ratio better than one to one, and increased our average Boone & Crockett score from 120 B&C to 140 B&C.

Experimenting with several different buck management strategies we have finally settled on a set of guidelines that work to preserve the genetically dominant buck until he reaches maturity.

Trophy Requirements (without personal guide)

-Eight point with at least 16" inside spread

-More than eight points and taken with a gun, then it must score at least 160 inches (gross) on the Boone & Crockett scoring system with no minimum inside spread requirement.

-More than eight points and taken with a bow, then it must score at least 140 inches (gross) on the Pope & Young scoring system with no minimum inside spread requirement.

Bucks harvested without a personal guide, that do not meet these trophy requirements will cost an additional $2000.

Trophy Requirements ( with personal guide)

Available for an additional cash fee. Your personal guide will act as an insurance policy to avoid the additional payment for an illegal buck. Your guide will tell you which buck qualifies as a trophy and he can capture the hunt on tape.
Your guide will use the above trophy requirements criteria and will also allow you to shoot a management trophy.

A management trophy is a buck we have put on the Hit LIst as a shooter and is defined as 9 points or more at age 6 1/2 years or more and scores over 125 P&Y/B&C. If one of these deer scores under 125 inches, it will count as a cull buck.

Our definition o f a cull buck is 8 points or less and 3 1/2 years or older scoring less than 125 inches. A cull buck will not count as your trophy. Shoot a cull today - Keep hunting for your trophy tomorrow. Cull bucks may be shot only under the supervision of a guide.

Does may be taken at the rate of one per person per day until the quota by management is achieved. Does may be harvested without a personal guide. There will be a $300 charge for button bucks.

Double Book - Double Buck Policy
Anyone that books two 3-day hunts is allowed to shoot two trophies. You may shoot one on each hunt, two on the first hunt, or two on the second hunt--shoot them while the hunting is good. And the hunts do not have to be consecutive. Example: If you book a bow hunt in October and a gun hunt in January, then you may shoot both your trophies with a bow in October or one with a gun and one with a bow in January. Also, if you happen to kill both trophies in October, you can continue your hunt in January for a third trophy, which will cost the price of the hunt only after you kill him.

Rebook Policy
If a hunter does not kill a trophy, he/she may rebook for half price on any open dates within the same season.

Deer Stands

Giles Island offers a variety of hunting situations ranging from dense thickets to wide open fields.
The gun hunter and non-hunting guests will enjoy 30 all weather box stands. For the gun hunter and bow hunter we have over 100 stands that are either ladder or loc-on and range from 14' - 25' in height.
The bow hunter may use one of our climbing stands as long as the hunter stays within a 75 yard radius of the designated stand assignment.
